●何謂高血壓？
如果收縮壓已經超過140毫米汞柱或舒張壓為90毫米汞柱以上，就是罹患高血壓了。
●高血壓有哪些感覺？
剛開始沒有什麼不舒服，或只有輕微的頭痛、頭昏、失眠、耳鳴、呼吸短促、噁心、視力減退、頸部酸痛等症狀。
●高血壓會造成什麼後果？
◎ 腎臟方面：高血壓會引起腎臟衰竭、腎機能不全及尿毒症等。
◎ 腦部方面：血管硬化、容易使血管破裂或阻塞，而引起中風。
◎ 心臟方面：由於高血壓，心臟承受不了，造成左心室肥大，衰竭或心肌梗塞。
◎ 眼睛方面：供應視網膜血液的小血管受傷，會造成視網膜出血，眼睛水腫，嚴重者會導致失明。
● 高血壓預防及控制：
(一)飲食方面：
1.節制食量，尤其是澱粉類食物，以避免肥胖。
2.吃低鹽飲食，即菜中放的鹽應減少為一半。
3.少吃動物油，炒菜時改用橄欖油、黃豆油等植物性油較好。
4.限制膽固醇含量高的食物，如動物內臟、蛋黃、海鮮等。
鹽蝦豬油豬肝少吃；蔬菜水果魚類多吃
(二)適當的運動，如散步、做體操等，每週至少三次，每次超過30分鐘。不要在飯前或飯後一小時內運動。
(三)戒煙、戒酒，維持輕鬆的心情，凡事不急不躁，心平氣和。
(四)保持大便通暢，預防便秘。
(五)最好自己學會量血壓並紀錄下來。
(六)定期健康檢查，並按照醫師指示吃藥，切勿自行增減藥量。
●血壓之測量
每天應在家中同一時間，同一手臂，測量血壓，並作成紀錄提供醫師做治療之參考。
